How I keep my makeup and tools sanitized

Did you know that even before COVID19, I was already very meticulous in keeping my makeup and tools sanitized before each appointment? Oh, the process of getting ready the night before a hair or makeup appointment with my clients!
When I was at makeup school, we were trained to ensure that we sanitize our makeup, brushes and tools before each class. Our instructors would randomly check our stations and brushes if they were clean. No double dipping on cream products, especially mascara and lip glosses!
I have carried that through my professional career as a makeup artist. I would always imagine myself being the client and having a trustworthy makeup artist who meticulously keep everything that would touch me clean and sanitized is VERY, VERY important to me. Therefore, I do the same with my clients.
Before an appointment, I take out all my makeup, brushes and tools from my kit clean and sanitize them with 99% alcohol. For makeup, I wipe them down with tissue and spray 99% alcohol after. For my brushes, I use Cinema Secrets brush cleaner to remove the makeup residues especially from cream products and deep clean them with soap and water. For my other tools like sharpeners, eyelash curlers, tweezers, hair brushes, etc I wash them with soap and water as well and spray 99% alcohol after. For things I cannot wash with soap and water, I wipe with 99% alcohol. My husband even once commented while I was preparing for an appointment, "Are you going to do a surgery?" 😂🤣
At school, we were trained to clean our brushes after each client with a good brush cleaner, like Cinema Secret. However, I invested to build sets of brushes to use for each client because as much as possible I want to use freshly deep cleaned brushes. But don’t get me wrong, brushes cleaned using brush cleaners in between clients are perfectly ok. I just feel more confident if I use freshly washed brushes.
During appointment, I make sure I wash my hands before I start working. When I finish setting up your hair, I would wash my hands again before working on your skin. And of course I wash my hands in between clients too!
Now that COVID19 pandemic hit us, I couldn't be more meticulous with my sanitation and cleaning habits. I have also added extra precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and face shield because I have to stay safe for my clients and for my family as well.
Take care and stay safe!
